Linked In Network

I have updated my Linkedin.com profile, and was thinking about “what to use it for”…I mean, I have allot of profiles on the many different SN (Social Networks) sites there are available, so why spend time and concentrate on linkedin.com?

Well, check out my profile on linkedin and let me know if you would consider it useful.

Semantic Web 9.0

To keep with the buzz word long tails, I wanted to use this opportunity to express my concern that accessibility, and semantic XHTML in general, are fast becoming pase…

Semantics, web standards, and usability are NOT pase, they are needed more now than ever.

New Web Host…Not

I have been through the DNS Server “ringer”! I had switched my reseller hosting company for another, who provided much more space/bandwidth, but due to DNS issues, I have had to go back to my old host.

Have you all been through this before?

So I’ve been looking to see if I could get a better deal for my web hosting. But more than that, I want much more feature rich hosting options than I currently get with the host I use now. And of course, since times are tight, and money is no longer growing on trees…I’m being very picky as to who I would select if I were to make the switch.

Now let me tell you, I do not have any issues with my hosting provider now, but since I’ve signed up with them, I’ve found a great site that offers totally unbiased web hosting reviews for free. WebHostingGeeks.com is the site, and so I went out to prove to myself that I should switch hosting companies. Looking at their Top 10 website hosting companies, I failed to see mine listed, but found some others there that offered great services at great prices. So that made my mind up even further to switch!

And if I can talk to you webmasters out there…I know that for me, I am always looking for great linkbait articles and such, and this site has some great web hosting articles that are must reads for us. Not only can you get tips and tricks for dealing with your hosting company, but you can also learn how the industry actully runs and maintains the technology.

So back to my decision. After I had almost made my mind up to contact one of the Top 10 hosting companies I found, I happened to notice the link they have for:

Web Hosting Awards + Best Reseller Hosting

So I thought, “Ok, this is exactly what I need. I’ll check it out!” - but to my surprise (not a real surprise, as I am very happy with my current reseller account) - my reseller hosting company was the featured host on that page! So now I am fully content that I made the right decision in my hosting company, thanks to WebHostingGeeks.com.

I’ve recently had a conversation with some internet marketers who do not care about web standards, semantics or accessibility. Their bottom dollar dictates how they design websites. And that’s not cool. listen

Why Do You Design Without Standards?

I have seen some great looking web sites. But under the hoods to many of them, you’ll find tag soup. Some do not even declare a DOCTYPE, and when they do, they do not bother to validate their code.

In other words, those sites reek.

Web Blog About Design

Stylish BlogI am on a mission to find that perfect web design blog that will cover the newest tips & tricks, updates on the latest news in our industry, and such. And since I like the sound of my own voice (so to speak), I will generally comment on those blogs on the post I find I can contribute back to the web designer community, and not just take in the wealth of knowledge they offer.

I have found a great web site that keeps an updated design blog I have been reading lately. The company that runs if also offers custom web design services, which I will definitely keep in mind if or when I ever have to outsource a design contract. Their examples and portfolio is pretty good. But again with their blog. I understand that we all blog about our successes and failures, but what about other industry news that we ourselves have not generated? The sign of a good blog is one that has authors that post on other topics of the same categories, and not just what they themselves have been doing.

Well, Stylish Blog (their title tag’s text is: Blogging about web design, money and life) has made it into my bookmarks - even my del.icio.us ones. You see, the most interesting (and to me, relevant) thing about their blog, site, and services is a simple thing: they design for the real world, and not semantically coding valid markup without regard for a client’s needs or the like. Using web standards as it sits in the real world. And that in itself makes them “real” to me.

Google Is An Arrogant Giant

Yes, I did say it. And I’ll say it again, “Google is an arrogant giant”. This site only links out to relevant sites that would benefit, or at least would be of interest to the web design niche and community. But Google being the arrogant giant they are, and only wants to be in the link sales business themselves, has taken us (this site) from a PR6 to PR2. Not to mention sub-pages being PR0. However…

However…

However, traffic has never been so good! We’re getting close to 2 thousand unique visitors monthly, which means great traffic for the outgoing links here. So to Google I say…

You can take your PR values and eat them :)
